Just as I always pack too much stuff, I always stress myself out before a vacation. I'm probably not the only person to do so, but it drives me crazy.
Phil and I leave Saturday morning for Georgia where we will spend a week at Reynolds Plantation. We do plan to look at houses and land, but we also just need to relax and reconnect.
This trip has been postponed so many times. We were last down there in May, 2008 and thought we would return that summer. Well, life happens and months passed. We planned for early June of this year. Again, stuff happened. We have now cancelled airlines tickets twice! I still haven't hauled my suitcase up yet as I don't want to jinx this trip! Last night I did, however, started the packing process by laying things out on the extra bed.
Still, I drive myself crazy. My doggie sitter, Mary Sue will be staying at my house. I always feel a need to really clean before she arrives. And, she leaves the house as neat as a pin, too. It is nice to come home to a tidy house. The day after we arrive home I will be having company staying with me, so I am really cleaning as I won't have that much time in between getting home myself and their arrival.
Besides the usual amount of clothing and shoes (LOL) I'm bringing down I am also hauling our "wish list" and my "ideas book" in case we decide to purchase land. If we do decide to build we have a builder in mind and we would like to spend some time with him sharing our ideas so he can start drawing up house plans. I'm really hoping we find a house we both like, though. I just can imagine building a house from 1,000 miles away!
Phil has been going through intense treatments the last few weeks and will continue when we return home. It is wearing on him, causing him horrible headaches and an upset stomach. He goes into work every day as he says he keeps him focused on other things besides cancer and treatments. Hopefully, the trip down will be OK for him and once we arrive at Reynolds and check into our cottage he can relax and sleep. Sunday we plan to hang out and maybe check out Greensboro, the nearest town.
We are both so looking forward to this vacation. Golfing, swimming, relaxing, cuddling - I just can't wait. We are also anxious to reconnect with the friends we have made their and compare grandkid pictures!
Vacations are a wonderfu thing - if I can survive the preparation time!

Sounds like a wonderful trip, Julie-Ann! Hope you find something interesting land- and house-wise!
I hope you have a wonderful trip. Some year you should come to MUUSA (successor to LGSA) - though it is awfully hot here in Missouri...
